Protect your back, your wheels and the environment

Patented construction details make the Green & Clever assembly stand by REMA TIP TOP an ideal tool for workshops.

Poing, August 31st, 2016 – When trying to cut down on muscle power, it is typical to use electrical energy – even in bicycle workshops. Though electric and pneumatic assembly stands take some of the burden off the operator, they increase energy costs. The trend of increasingly heavier e-bikes also demands more energy. As a new development, the Green & Clever assembly stand from REMA TIP TOP is a perfectly balanced combination of back-friendly work and energy efficiency.

Bicycle workshops and wasted energy? These are two concepts that at first glance don’t seem to fit together. Doing maintenance work on environmentally-friendly transportation devices would, it would seem, confirm an operator’s commitment to sustainability. But even for repairs it is important to keep an eye on the consumption of energy and resources, for instance when it comes to assembly stands: Workshop operators are generally caught between deciding whether they want to provide relief to the environment or to their own backs. In workshops where engine-equipped hoisting units are used to bring the wheel to an appropriate working height, a lot of electric or pneumatic energy is consumed over the course of the year. Where heavy e-bikes in particular are lifted using only bodily strength, technicians will soon complain about the physical impact of this work.

Hoist support with gas pressure spring
With the Green & Clever assembly stand, the specialists at REMA TIP TOP have developed a working tool that solves this dilemma. “Our new assembly stand makes lifting easier for users, yet operates entirely without electric power”, explains Uwe Dohse, coordinator for two-wheeled vehicles at REMA TIP TOP. At the back end of the stand, a gas pressure spring with 800 mm lift supports the lifting function with about 20 kilograms. With a loosened cam lever, the wheel can be easily brought by hand to the desired height and fixed in place – without any electrical energy or compressed air. “It also makes assembly easier, because no other connections need to be made”, continues Dohse.
With a maximum load capacity of 30 kilograms, working on e-bikes becomes a simple task, even though they can easily weigh up to 25 kilograms. Because of this, the battery can remain installed during repairs, instead of having to be taken out in order to reduce the total weight. This also makes it easier to check the drive from a clamped position.

Patented clamping system
The stand includes a pivot arm with a patented 3-point clamping system which can readily adjust to a variety of different frame shapes. Using this arm, even frames made of carbon and aluminum can be securely fastened. The height of the pivot unit from the center of the idler rolls is 725 mm; the clamp on the front end of the device uses slot nuts and eccentric clamps. To allow components such as chains or bottom brackets to be brought to a comfortable height, the wheel can be pivoted 80 degrees in either direction when clamped. The assembly stand is fixed directly on the ground or on the optional base plate.
Another accessory available for the Green & Clever assembly stand is a clamping extension which can be integrated in the 3-point clamping system unilaterally or bilaterally. The extension enables a greater distance from the brake, particularly in the rear area of the bicycle. To this end, it is installed in place of the rear idler roller or the rear locking pin. The extension is compatible with all other stands from REMA TIP TOP.
The total height of the assembly stand is 1,730 mm. With a pivot unit base height of 725 mm (from the middle of the idler rolls) it obtains a lifting capacity of 800 mm.

Live at the EUROBIKE trade fair
Currently, the Green & Clever assembly stand can be seen at the EUROBIKE trade fair at the provider’s stand. At the exhibition center in Friedrichshafen, visitors can view demonstrations of the tool performed by two-wheeled vehicle specialists from REMA TIP TOP, and to try it out in person. For the duration of the trade fair (August 31st to September 4th), the company is displaying all new items in Hall A5 at Stand 208 and provides information about the entire product range for dealers, workshops and customers.
